Got myself a Nokia N900 last week. It's a smartphone that runs linux. Very flexible -- it can run Window if you have the disk space. It doesn't spy on me, and require the use of an "App Store". I'm loving it.

Got Samsung ones meself. Quite impressed. A bit of refinement in one or two areas needed though.

Still, 15 years ago we were still stuffing bits of paper into envelopes and waiting for days on end for them to arrive. Now here I am in the Pyrenees replying to you in Canada and you will be able to read it as soon as I press "post".

And I'm moaning cos the spell check thing doesn't work and the edit feature's a bit fiddly.

I just caught up on this thread.

Petrol at our local Morrissons is £1.29.9 a litre, so not much saving in Andorra. Diesel's £1.37.9 a litre... outrageous.

Still, if the place you're tootling round is only 181 sq. miles, you don't need much petrol. Except it's mostly uphill there, isn't it?

However, if they all speak Catalan (which even I have failed to penetrate with my exquisite Castillian), you also need much alcohol to console yourself in the mountains there.

So a kilo's going to last you about 5 days then?

Should have asked him for 100 kilos really.

A Kilo should last me over 6 months. I don't drink alcohol 3 or 4 days each week, and often go several days without a smoke without thinking about it. I have never been allowed to smoke in the house, except over 25 years ago, and even then cigarettes weren't allowed. She could always tell the difference, even the next day. I find that if you are pissed all the time, you can't appreciate the wonderful feeling of being completely sober.

Not bought one, but rented a small place to use as a base for the meantime - not officially leaving here yet, am going to go back & forth for a year or two, get to know the place better (and the people) and see what everyone else wants to do.

2 double beds, one bath, top floor of a modern block. Decent view. Reasonably close to the gondola (ski lift). Not bad.









It's ok. I wanted it to be a little bigger but it's in a good location and is well kitted out. Will do for now.

You can buy studio flats from about 80,000 euros and pay into the millions for houses with a bit of land.
