Can one buy strong hydrochrolic acid in the supermarket in the UK ?

I ask as I just bought a litre in the supermarket, pretty strong stuff given the way it fizzes on cantact with anything.

Oh, I bought it to de-scale the bathroom taps..

Wonder what it would do if you were to drink it....

Not seen it in supermarkets. You can get it in builders merchants though. Sometimes sold as "Spirits of Salts"

Kill you. Painfully.

Nasty stuff.

I have used it before.

Certainly wouldn't use it to de-scale taps, aside from the safety aspect it'll likely take the chrome off too and it gives off really 'orible fumes (which will do you no good at all if you inhale them). Better off with some Viakal or whatever the Froggy equivalent is.

Hydrochloric acid?

Yes, it's freely available in all UK supermarkets in small flagons...... it's next to the Sarson's vinegar usually, but in Scotland it's normally sold in the entrance foyer in 5 litre plastic vessels, so I'm reliably informed.

Well it did the trick, disolved all the limescale in the little metal screen thingy at the end of the taps.
